An autonomous vehicle (AV), also known as a driverless car, unmanned vehicle, self-driving car, etc., refers to a vehicle which drives without active human intervention. AVs are equipped with various sensors granting them full sensing ability to adapt to the neighborhood environment for fully automated control. They have the advantages of faster response times, less fuel consumption, and fewer accidents. In recent years, the development of AVs have not only revolutionized the automotive industry but also have profound impacts on economy, mobility, and society. Their proper utilization is believed to be one of the possible solutions to ease traffic congestion. We focus on AV-based transportation system based on Internet of things, big data, and various vehicular technologies. We study large-scale vehicle routing and scheduling, pricing, lane changing, and integration with the smart grid in the context of smart city.
