Reasons for choosing this text
It is well written by a superb teacher. It also happens that he is an alumni from this department, who is now the Elmore Associate Professor of Electrical and Computer Engineering and Associate Professor of Statistics at Purdue University.
There is a dedicated website with a lot of teaching materials.
The book has lots of MATLAB and Python codes to bridge the mathematics and computation.
The book is available with a free download from Univ. Michigan Publishing, while you can also purchase a hard copy if you prefer.
Using this text as a supplement for the course
The primary resources for this course are still the lectures and handouts, but hopefully this textbook and teaching materials will help deepen your understanding of the materials.
Our coverage and notations may sometimes differ from the book. (The book itself covers a two-semester course.)
There are a lot more examples and exercises from the book. Make good use of them if you desire more practices. (Every year, we get this request for more practice from some students.)
