Image-Based 3D Photography and Video Technology

Image-Based Rendering is an emerging and promising technology for rendering new views of real-world and synthetic scenes from a collection of densely sampled images. It opens up new opportunities for developing revolutionary virtual reality and visualization systems such as 3D photography, video and television systems. Other important applications include cultural heritage preservation, computer vision and intelligence, etc.

Examples:

Snapshots of an 8 camera-based plenoptic video.

Example of a concentric mosaic. Using the concentric mosaics, new views of the scene can be rendered at very high quality.

Some of the renderings of the plenoptic video at different time instants. This dynamic representation is the generalization of traditional videos to support immersive viewing.
